Greenlite Lighting Corporation is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of energy efficient lighting products, and one of the few Canadian companies that manufactures and distributes energy efficient compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs). Greenlite’s bulbs bear the ENERGY STAR ® label, both in Canada and the U.S.
As a company with a social conscience, one of Greenlite’s major objectives is to educate Canadians about the environmental benefits of using CFLs in their homes and businesses. Since the day the company was founded, Greenlite believed in the superiority of CFLs over traditional incandescent lighting and made the commitment to help consumers be better informed about energy efficient lighting and its benefits. Greenlite takes its corporate social responsibility seriously, often providing bulbs free of charge while encouraging Canadians to make the change.
Company President and CEO Nina Gupta founded Greenlite in 1996 in Montreal, Quebec. Previously, Greenlite was named Lamptronics and was the North American marketing arm of the Gupta family’s India-based automotive lighting business. When her research and experience told her the North American lighting business would go green, Gupta rebranded Lamptronics as Greenlite and the company became a manufacturer and distributor of CFLs.
When it first opened its doors Greenlite had just a handful of employees and sales of $300,000. Today, Greenlite, a privately held company, has offices in Canada, the U.S. and China and sales of $30 million. |

NINA GUPTA
President & CEO
Nina Gupta is the President and CEO of Greenlite Lighting Corporation, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of energy efficient lighting products.
Gupta founded Greenlite in 1996 when her instinct told her North America’s lighting business was going green.
With years of experience in the family’s automotive lighting business, Gupta decided to venture into the residential and industrial lighting sector. She believed that North Americans would increasingly turn their interest to energy efficient lighting and consequently, Greenlite should focus its business on compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs).
Her instinct paid off. Starting with a handful of employees in the mid-1990s, Gupta turned Greenlite into a $30 million company in just 10 years with offices in Canada, the US, China and soon India.
But Gupta’s vision is more than just promoting her product. A committed social activist, Gupta’s goal is to encourage North Americans to switch to CFLs and save their environment in the meantime. The company’s marketing strategy focuses on raising public awareness about reducing greenhouse gas emissions and the role CFLs can play.
In 2007 Gupta won the prestigious RBC Canadian Woman Entrepreneur Award for her trailblazing efforts at Greenlite. The company has twice been named a regional finalist in the Deloitte’s 50 Best Managed Companies. She is a member of the Women Presidents’ Organization. |
